I love sports. I love watching and back in my day, I loved playing sports. There has always been one thing that really irritated me and still does. In the past few weeks in watching a variety of games, both live and on tv, ranging in different sports, I've been reminded that I hate bad refs. Who doesn't right. But its more than just a bad ref hatred. Its offensive. Bad refs compromise the integrity of the game at stake. Rules are set for a reason and when they are not played by the rules, the game is damaged. Its inconsistency at best. When players get away with something while others are 'called' for it, its more than unfair. Its not worth playing. Players condition and discipline for a set game time and when its not called correctly, its disheartening. In a game of grace, precision, power, speed, endurance, and control, its the small things that matter.
But heres the truth. What bothers me more than bad refs, are bad fans. Fans that only see one side of things. They don't see the game as it is but rather lean the see saw down to the ground. Its one sided. They yell at the 'bad refs' believing every call should go their way. Its embarrassing, particularly when they seek agreement that I won't give. Its a game, competition, contest. One side is not always right nor is the other side always in the wrong like we see.
As much as I love sports, its frustrating to me when the beauty of the game is weakened by bad refs and bad fans. Just had to get that out there. Especially because I'm often the bad fan yelling at the bad ref.
Blessings.
