This past Monday night, we met to do just that. Enjoy a great dinner, celebrate Christmas and celebrate the work we have seen God do. There was little content to the night--just a bit of encouragement through numbers and stories along with a challenge to the next semester. We were getting ready to transition to the next thing, a round of 'dirty santa' when one of our leaders said she wanted to do something real quick.
She got everyone's attention and went on to thank the staff for all our hard work and tell us how thankful they were for us. She then gave us each something a little different to show their appreciation. I was deeply moved. They gave me a beautiful necklace with my initials on it. I love that it was character yet class. Its just perfect.
The part that was so special was the feeling of being valued and appreciated. I often feel that way because of our great students, but its an unexplainable moment. One you rarely get in ministry yet hold onto. It was so thoughtful and sweet and I really am so thankful to get to work with such great students.
I joke with them a lot that they are 'just students.' But really they are my dear friends who I get the privilege of working with. I'm blessed. Be blessed. Blessings.
