What I'm about to write, is all true.
Over Christmas, my sister-in-love encouraged me to buy an amaryllis bulb to bring back to Tuscaloosa. It wasn't like she just said something and I was on board.
We were out shopping after Christmas searching for a Christmas tree for me (which for the books, we found and I can't wait for next year!!) and a few things for others. One thing on our list were amaryllis bulbs, because Renee knew of a good sale. As she says, they are 'the easiest plant to grow, you can't kill them'
We were cruising the aisles of Meijer (a store slightly better than WalMart) when we found a stock pile of these easy-to-grow-impossible-to-kill plants. I was skeptical still, but interested. When we picked one up that was literally growing out of the box without the help of sunlight or water, I was convinced. I can do this. 'Mastered by nothing' right Liz??? So I joined on and bought on, for maybe a few bucks. Quite cheap.
The bulb make the trip back south by way of Atlanta and then home to Tuscaloosa. I quickly unwrapped it and followed directions. By followed, I mean studied. I did exactly what I was supposed to do. A day passed, and the amaryllis bulb look pathetic. A few days later, same thing.
Weeks.
A month. And nothing. That plant that became a thorn in my flesh was mocking me, reminding me that this impossible plant to kill was killed. Yup, I am a horrible gardner apparently.
I certainly would not be writing this if there was not redemption.
A few weeks ago, I decided to own my fear, break down, and get my next plant. In the store I was tempted to get a 'grow it yourself' plant, but was quickly remembering the pile of dirt on my kitchen ledge. It'd at least be nice to have something to look at until I killed the next victim. I figured, lets make sure I can maintain a plant before I graduate to growing my own.
I bought a *insert plant name that I can't remember* Its leafy (which reminds me of the friends episode where phoebe says whats the best part of trees?? They're tall? 5 pts. They're green. 2 pts. I was looking for...leafy, leafy. Classic) with little white buds and flowers?? I suppose describing a plant is not my thing. Its perfect though. I also got an adorable little yellow pot and its possible I'm obsessed with my new little plant!
Its been nearly a month, and I'm thrilled to report it's alive and well. Its growing well, much larger than when I brought it home and looking healthy. Sooo, I think I'm ready for the next step.
Thoughts?? Suggestions?? Recommendations?? Tips?? Although my pride was puffed up a bit, I know I still have a long ways to go to have that green thumb!
Blessings.
