Christmas card disaster

Today was the day. All week its been put off, for lack of picture availability. The other way to say that, is until last night at about 10pm, our current staff team had zero pictures together. I really wanted to include a picture of our team in my Christmas card, so all week I put off going to order the cards.

Reality is, it worked out nicely. Thursdays are normally my morning to work through training. Its a slower paced day for me and I'm on my own schedule. I was on the phone when I walked out of the house thinking...I'll go run a few errands and be done with this...and keep talking. I guess all that was true, but not it wasn't the easiest of tasks I faced today.

I started at CVS. In my mind, I had a picture of what I wanted, and it didn't have Santa Claus, an angel or Feliz Navidad on it. For some reason, those seemed to be the popular ones across town. Its like in appealing to the "kids" they do Santa, the "spiritual" surely will want an angel with some great line like 'peace and joy' (nothing wrong with that, I just didn't want that) or for those other nationalities or possibly the funny crowd, there are the feliz navidad cards. I mean, doesn't anyone just want something simple yet elegant? Something that can be meaningful and classy, cute and catchy. Is that too much to ask? So I had something in my head and the templates I saw at CVS I didn't think were going to do the job, plus they were huge.

So I left and went to Kinkos, still on the phone, and struck out. It was there that I dropped my camera, uggh. So I left and walked down to Rite Aid, surely this will be the place!! Why would it though, anyone who wants a good card must search for the perfect pearl. Target? That too was a negative, so I made the dreaded drive out to Skyland to Wal Mart. I mean, isn't that the savior of retail right now. They have everything, surely options is one thing they will have. Options they had, just not good ones. Thankfully, because I was still on the phone, I didn't realize that well over an hour had passed, my gas tank was lower, and I still had no Christmas cards. I could order them online, but that will take days and if these suckers don't go out soon, they probably won't go out until the new year. And lets be really honest here, I was a bit determined this morning to do them. Can you tell.

So back to CVS--one design sorta caught my eye, with a little work I can fix it up and I'll be on my way. Or you would think. I got it all worked out, the cards are finally printing and the real mess begins. First the price was messed up, which I can handle that. But then, they tell me there are no envelopes for the cards, which happen to be huge, they are 6 x 8! Do you think I have 125 6 x 8 envelopes laying around? You want me to pay for these without envelopes. Soooo I put my foot down. I asked her to cancel the order, I'd pay for what was printed but I didn't want them if I couldn't have envelopes. They are advertised with envelopes. She said no. Oh gosh, oh gosh, oh gosh, what do I say back.  'Ok, is there a way to get them' I nicely left my name and number and said call me when you find them--hoping they didn't see much of an option but to give me envelopes that worked.

An hour later, I'm off the phone and working on training--finally! Not the phone part :) the training part. They call, and have it all ready, so I went back to pick them up.

Fast forward to tonight, just a few hours ago. I was putting on the name tags and doing the final touches to these things. Get them out of my site!!! I started to notice the same name go by--'hey wait, I already did one for them' I'm now on skype with someone and about to go crazy. These Christmas cards have dominated me today!

But I'm happy to tell you, they are addressed, signed and stuff. All I need are stamps. I'm praying that its a matter of walking in and out of the post office to get them and thats it. For all of you getting one of these Christmas cards, which is probably everyone who cares enough to read this, enjoy. Those cards have been through a lot and I have coated them with all my love. Only because I love you!!
