Ants in my pants.

If it makes for a good story, I invite the unexpected. I've said that for a while, but often know that comes with a cost. Last night was just that.

I rode my bike to Meagan's apartment to hang out and get in the largest hot tub in CO (not really, but maybe). We hung out for a while and at about 1045, I headed back. To get there, I of course carried a bag there so I would have a towel and such. No surprise, I took my mountain smith pack.

I returned to my dorm at about 11, chatted with my roommate and was about to go to the bed. My pack had been placed on my bed, moved to the ground and a few other places. I was pulling my Bible out of my backpack and about to get on my bed when I noticed a few ants on my bed. We're in CO so I brushed them off, got to reading and thought nothing of it. I read for a while and decided I'd shower before bed to save time in the morning.

As I was getting up, I saw a few more ants, brushed them off and headed for the shower. I didn't think much of it. Weird things happen in dorms right?

When I came back from the shower, there were about 20 ants on my bed. Not good at all. So, I did what any normal person would do--I made a joke about it and began to think of a solution. TP seemed reasonable to squish them, brushing didn't seem to solve my problem.

I took care of that but they seemed to be coming back quicker than I could kill them and then it hit me. Perhaps this problem is bigger than a few ants in the room. So I glanced down to the floor and saw that the brown carpet was moving, but it wasn't the carpet. It was an ant hill that I had essentially carried into the dorm from the hot tub area that was now making its home on my dorm floor. It was no easy task to clean up.

'What to do, what to do?' The front desk was closed, I had no spray to kill them, my only weapon was TP and they were spreading fast. Thus, I had to move fast. So I began pinching one by one and ending their little lives. I had no choice really. If I missed, they scurried into the carpet and I missed my chance. Its possible there are still 100's of ants alive in my room in hiding.

At one point I was sitting on the ground cleaning up the ants and had a few crawled up my leg. Then I noticed that a few where in my pants. I kid you not, ants in my pants. That really happens? I mean really???

So I did the best I could and finally called it a night. I awoke this morning with a few dead ants on me and couldn't help but wonder how many made their home on me last night or are not resting within me. Yuk.

I did however just check out the vacuum from the front desk and go to town on the carpet. Hopefully that helped. So my recommendation is to not bring ants back into your dorm room. Its not easy to fix.
