Cell phones at games

Shocking statement of the week, I love football. No really, I really do. My weekends are spent watching several full games and realistically, I could watch any game. I just love football.

But I've grown to have a problem with something. Its quite typical these days when the camera focuses on a certain player, the coaches, and even the crowd. I can predict it. These days, I dread when they focus on the crowd, because yes, its that embarrassing.

Of course I'm happy to see the fans that at the UGA game have 'broken tradition' and aren't wearing a dress and I love to see people at the Buckeyes game who are wearing 10 lbs of buckeyes they might knock out their front teeth if they jump, but upon seeing those fans, you also see the lesser fans. The fans I dread seeing.

Without fail, when the fans are shown, probably half of the people are looking down at what I could only assume is their cell phone. I've thought of other things it could be, and just can't convince myself that everyone is tending to a band hangnail--its the death of the cell phone. Here they are, at a football game, more likely than not a tough ticket, and they hardly look up because they are texting the whole time.

What could you possibly be texting during a football game? Who could you possibly be texting? Its probably from one phone to the another in the next section. It seems like a waste, I'll go as far as to say it is a waste. Its embarrassing that that many people 'attend' the game but spend the whole time on their phone. Phones are sickening these days. People walk around with their hands folded around the phone, even if they aren't holding the phone.

So I make my plea football fans. If you go to the games, go to the games. Stay off your phone and cheer. Part of going to the game is cheering and giving the team home field adantage. Hard to do when the only sound you make is the silent touch of your touchscreen.
