Location: Birmingham Alabama
Time of day: Not all that important, but mid morning
Incident: Classic confusion
I was in Bham this morning for more work on my jaw. Same old story right. Well, after I was finished, I went to a drive through to a get a drink to get the horrible tastes out of my mouth. An hour drive can be brutal when all you taste is 'dentist' Come on, you know what I'm talking about.
I pulled up to the window and was greeted by a nice guy that said "Oh, do you work for a news station"
I was slightly thrown off until I remembered I was wearing an Olympic jacket. Back in my Olympic days...no just kidding. Jen (sister) worked for the Olympics in Turin (Torino for all your Americans who just corrected me) 4 years ago. My benefit, lots of gear.
Not much thought went into it, but I just replied with something simple, "my sister did." At this point, it hadn't crossed my mind that NBC was not boldly written on this jacket like it is many others. I was a little caught off guard.
"Oh great, which one??" He questioned.
"NBC," slightly curious why he cares.
"And her name?" As he took my card and handed me my drink.
"Jen Lehren..."
"Ohhh yea, I remember her." He walked away to get my receipt. In that split second moment, I thought, 'now here is a case of classic confusion. Do I correct him or just let it go' Although correcting him might have lead to some entertaining conversations, I assure you this guy was anything but dull, I left it alone.
Not sure who he thought she was, but this guy was confident he knew my sister from the news. She's pretty famous if you didn't know. I guess you have to get on the news to be famous, but thats another story.
So, to my sister--live it up, someone thinks you're a big deal.
Blessings.
