This Valentines Day, I must confess, there was added anticipation because D is in my life. Even though I don't really give into the market that has made itself Vday, its special to have him.
So lets look back. Last Valentines Day as I recall, I was laying in the Birmingham hospital at 6AM, with Dr. Koslin about to operate on my jaw. As I've joked...when a guy comes at you with a knife on valentines day, the guys to follow don't have to do much to impress you. Needless to say, last year wasn't that great. I was in a ton of pain, for months actually, got to eat ZERO eggs, and had no date. Not that the date makes or breaks the day, it never has for me, but its worth noting.
So this year, I'm looking forward to the day--no surgery and I have this guy that lets me call him my boyfriend, and all is well. Not so fast.
Friday I wake up with what I would describe as a fire in my throat. It didn't take me long to go to the doctor, which says a lot. Strep they told me. Ok, I can handle that. But as I got home and continued to throw up...for days, I started to wonder if it was just strep that I had. I won't go into details, but I was sick. Still am not great really.
So the 14th rolls around and I'm just about dead in bed, feeling like death. Its not good. My date (if you could call it that) is stuck on a train for 17 hours and experiencing misery himself. I wouldn't exactly say that Valentines day was all that glamorous.
There was however a redeeming factor. That guy I talk about--he sent some flowers. I originally was going to be going to Atlanta over the weekend, so he had them be here on Friday...so I enjoyed them the whole time I was sick. Lilys, my favorite.
So I'm not sure if I'm looking forward to valentines day next year or not. Dare I say it can't get much worse? I suppose it could..! At least I know it could get better!!
