Unforgiving, unbalanced sports fans

I'm a sports fan, I doubt thats surprising. If you at all follow sports, it would be hard to have missed the recent things with Michael Vick and Donte Stallworth.

Vick, a once NFL standout was a part of dog fights and as a result, spent two plus years in prison. Then the NFL took extra action and isn't allowing him to play for the first 6 games until he is undoubtly reinstated. With a name like Vick, he is sure to be in again.

Yesterday, it was announced that Vick signed a new deal with the Eagles, thus he is fresh in the news right now. That alone has caused an uproar.

Donte on the other hand, was found guilty for drinking under the influence, marijuana in his possession, and hitting and killing a 59 year old pedestrian. Its truly sad. Donte spent 29 days in prison and was released. The NFL took harsher action by suspending him for one year from the NFL.

I have a lot of problems with all thats gone on with the two wrongdoers. I understand that people want to hear whats going on with them, they are athletes and of interest. But you can hardly turn on ESPN or the like these days without being flooded with news about these two men or something else like it. Steroids are infecting baseball, lawsuits take to football, players stir up the locker room. I mean, what has it come to that sports are no longer the highlight but rather the drama that those who play bring to sports. Its sick really. I never hear about Kurt Warner and his incredible foundation and his changing 100's of lives in his community and around. The most I ever see if a commercial with the good guys, never a report. You just start to wish the coin would flip and people would care more about that which impacts those for good and not give so much attention to those who need attention.

As Vick is in the process of coming back to the league, there have been many outspoken 'fans' we'll call them to voice their opinion. After he has paid the penalty enforced by the law and NFL, people are still not wanting him to have a second chance. People are coming out and saying that the Eagles have done their name great shame for bringing on such a horrible person, how could they? I am totally agreeing that he was wrong. But once the price has been paid, move on. If we never move on and give this guy another chance, are we not essentially saying we too never deserve a second chance? No, I've never been a part of dog fighting, but I've done plenty wrong and been given graciously a second, third...hundredth chance. Vick is entitled to just that.

Its a picture of the gospel really.

I'm love to hear all these people silenced. Knowing that they too need second chances in things, there is irony they are not willing to give it. That unforgiving population of sports fans or animal lovers, I don't know which they are, saddens me. At the least, I'd love to stop hearing from them.

Now flip again to Donte. Remember he was driving drunk and killed a man. I'm thankful for the NFL's action and will be interested to see if people lash out against him when he is reinstatement. My beef with this case is that people are not up in arms about his actions whereas they are about Vicks. Donte took another mans life. Just seems more severe yet its been completely dismissed.

So, thats all. As I've watch this unbalanced situation, I long for it to be over. Its a sick situation thats been dragged out far too long. When I flip on ESPN I wanna see highlights from the field, not the court room.
