Branch out a bit

I just don't think I can take it much longer. Praise God we are approaching a seasons where shorts are only acceptable at the gym or in your house. I just can't stand seeing the same pair of shorts on every single girl. Allow me to vent.

This by no means is a status thing, money thing, and I'm not even sure it's a style thing. Well, maybe a little bit of a style thing. For the some 12,000 girls at this university, I would guess that at least 8,000 of them wear these Nike running shorts EVERY day. Without exception, its a a pair of nike shorts, a greek/alabama/spring break/popular destination shirt with either shoes or flip flops.

There are a few things that bother me about this. One, that everyone does it. There has to be girls wearing them that don't like the way they look but wears them to "fit in." Sure, they are comfortable, but there are a ton of running shorts out there. Its like girls are limited to just the Nike running shorts, same style, variety of color. It makes me laugh (in fact, as I wrote that sentence, I looked up to see a girl walking towards me in Crimson with blue ones on, meeting a girl with pink ones...another girl in line has the red and her friend has the black. Surly if I stood up and surveyed someone else has them on) Another thing that gets me, is I meet with girls every day. People are always telling me about going shopping and buying all these nice things. Do they wear it?? Is it a "I wore it once and now its no good" policy. I mean, I don't really support people blowing a lot of money on clothes, but its worse to blow money on clothes and not wear it.

I see no personality, no individualism in people. Its this crazy trend that peer pressure has taken ahold of (another blue and yellow pair just walked in...) I wasn't much into dressing up for class and its not really my place to judge people on what they wear, I dress a little out of the norm, but it would be nice to see people do something a little bit against the tide. Step out a bit. I bet they have a pair of sophies in every color from a few years back, but God forbid they wear something that 1000's aren't.

I wonder if other campuses look like this. One might think UA had a uniform. I'd love to see students branch out a bit. Ok, I'm done..

Haha... oh puns!

I'll tell you one thing: UAH definitely isn't like that. I mean, there are trends and styles that are around, but not to that extreme. To be honest, I think the sororities and fraternities dictate most of it... UAH doesn't have many of either, and most students don't partake, so we don't have those kind of trends out the wazoo (I just said wazoo). However, people that look the most alike are in a fraternity or a sorority. Alabama is huge on both. I'm gonna go out on a very short limb and blame greek life for your predicament.

I don't think I've seen more than 1 or 2 pairs of those shorts all semester.

its funny because after i wrote that, its like i was being swarmed by those stupid shorts. they were after me. everyone i hung out with had them on and of course everyone i saw had them. and yea, of course they aren't sophies, a trend only last a short time. so a least i have something new to look forward to next year!

I just visited my little sister at Univ. of Alabama last week and was blown away by the massive number of nike running shorts I saw! I just couldnt believe it - EVERYONE looked the same! No one believes me that so many girls wear them so I went looking online for proof and found your blog. I hope you stay strong and resist the pressure to buy your own pair :)

Hahaha. thats so funny! I didn't see that comment from Tracy until just now. We don't know each other do we?

But yea its crazy, and fear not. I will not give in to the shorts. Its just not my style to be in the same style with everyone else, and God knows EVERYONE wears that dang shorts.
