I'm currently in Atlanta for Fall Break. On Wednesday night, I went to an event with my sister where season ticket holders could meet the entire Thrashers team. It was fun with the exception of being asked a dozen times of "where I was at school." I guess it just goes with the territory that if I'm on fall break, people assume I'm on fall break. If students aren't around, we aren't around. Its a time for us to get away, get refreshed, spend time with family, and find life! So, I find myself in Atlanta, staying at my sisters and visiting with both her and my dad. Yesterday while they were both at work, I grabbed coffee with Allison in the morning and then had the afternoon to myself. I like to do things by myself, so I headed to the Dekalb World Farmer's Market, just about five miles from where we live. Its a grocery store with food imported from all over the world. Its really neat to see what kinds of things they have and just explore a bit. I didn't have anything I was looking for really, I just wanted to look around. As I was pacing the aisels, I noticed I was keeping pace with a father and son. They would stop every few steps and pick something up, just like I would.
Now, just to paint the picture, this was no ordinary father and son. I have no idea why they were there, but I'm going to guess 'to expose his son to culture.' Every now and then the father would say "thats from another country son." Well, at one point, the little black boy put his hand up to his mouth, blew his breath onto his hand, made a nasty face and said "pops, why does my breath smell like that??" His dad simply replied "I think its the fish"
I had to hurry up to get ahead as I cracked up. Its without a doubt that this entire place reeks of fish. It just comes with the territory when you are in there that you will leave smelling like fish. In fact, I remember about 7 years ago going there my senior year of high school with Laney, Emily, and Megan on our way to Florida for spring break. Laney has a fear of fish, so this place wasn't the most fun for her. Good times though!!
I then stopped and hung out in downtown Decatur and shopped around for a little bit before heading home. Its fun to do things just because you have time and you enjoy them. It was pretty great!
