Soccer stud, possibly banned.

This is breaking news. Or it was when it all happened. Last week I pulled a few strings to be approved to play on the intramural soccer team. Lets be honest, if I was going to pick of sport to play for intramurals, soccer would be about 6th on the list. It just doesn't rank high for me. But I went with it, thought I can be a good sport, kick the ball around, whatever.

I showed up to the field with all that I needed. My white shirt nicely tucked in, shoes tied tight, my cwID (to allow me to play..) and but of course, a bandana and sweat band for pure intimidation. I had to have something going my way. Five minutes after being there, an official comes my way and says "you can play with the bandana but there can't be a knot..." I'm thinking, you've got to be kidding right? You want me to carry it with me to hold my hair back? Its got to be impossible to 'use it' without a knot.

So I didn't really have a lot going for me at this point. I'm not great at soccer, I was sore as anything from playing basketball with the Chinese guys and now I've lost my bread and butter in my bandana. I might as well just sit out. Oh, and did I mention that Sunday Night Football was on and I was missing the Steelers play. Thats a big deal in my world.

So the game started and it wasn't but about 14 seconds in that I got to thinking, 'we might get killed, which ought to be great since I'm playing defense.' Actually though, we did well. We held them to just 2 goals (3 points...girls get 2 points for scoring) for most of the game. I didn't have a lot of chances to break out, so had a shot to create my own opportunity. It was going to be bold, I admit. I was up against a guy about my size, someone that played soccer internationally, no big deal. He was sick and I easily could have been embarrassed. Every now and then though, I do things that look sweet and this (praise the Lord) was one of those moments.

Before I knew it I basically sat this guy down and now had control of the ball. I had one more dude to beat. I'm on top of the world so it wasn't a big deal, just do a little move and take a shot. But here's the thing. I was coming from the right side...so I had an awful angle on goal. What the heck, things were working for me so I shot and what do you know, the goalie was pretty horrible and I scored. It looked pretty rad too. The rest of the game isn't that important...I think we woke the beast, upset them a bit, and they went on to score three more times in about 3 minutes. BUT, we scored and my team thought it was sweet.

Monday I got a message from our team captain saying to call the intramural office. Phone tag today left me with this conclusion. I'm being kicked off the team. My talent is far to great to play with college students and there is no way they can handle my incredible skill set.

Or the reality is, they think I'm ineligible and are after me. I don't know what means for me or our team, but those things don't sound good or encouraging. I'll fight this to the end. I worked hard to get approved, I'm not letting them kick me off just because I'm not a student and can score mad goals. If they think I'm too good, fine.

You can imagine how much that killed my high, hearing I might not be able to play. I'm thinking I'm Mia Hamm and can do anything with a soccer ball. Right now, I'm living a dream. I don't need to be a pro athlete, I get paid to play sports in a college town with students, no strings attached. Living the dream I tell you. I'll let you know if I'm still living the dream next week...
